Multi Vehicle Crash

On Saturday October 21st, 2017 at approximately 1934 hours the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office responded to a multi vehicle crash at the intersection of E Il Rt 64 and German Church Rd (Oregon). The investigation revealed that two motorcycles were both e/b entering the intersection when they collided. One motorcycle entered the north side ditch and the other motorcycle, driven by Robert Prehn (m/w age 32 of Palantine) traveled down and came to a rest in the east bound lane of E Il Rt 64 as a result of the crash. A following e/b pick up truck driven by John Bailey (m/w age 46 of Sycamore) struck Prehn’s motorcycle in the e/b lane. A second e/b truck following Bailey’s vehicle, driven by Troy Krigbaum (m/w age 22 of Macon) then struck Prehn’s motorcycle a second time. Bailey, Krigbaum and Krigbaum’s passenger were uninjured and all released at the scene by Oregon and Mount Morris Fire/EMS.

Prehn wasn’t on his motorcycle when it was struck by the two trucks but was transported to Rockford Memorial Hospital by Oregon EMS for his injuries sustained in the previous motorcycle collision. The driver of the second motorcycle fled the scene on foot. Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by the Oregon Police Dept. The area was checked but the driver was not located. Sheriff’s Deputies met with Prehn at RMH were he was arrested for Driving Under the Influence, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. Prehn was released at the hospital and his injuries were considered non life threatening.

Sheriff’s Deputies report the crash remains under investigation and are following leads to identify and locate the other driver and or others that assisted in him leaving the scene.
